The Penny Motor

Well, not really, but have been fighting noise and rattle issues with these little pager motors and finally shifted gears and are working with small pancake motors (really, little DVD motors). Turns out the don't come with counterweighted vibrator nuggets, so a little brass penny did the trick!

The Magic of 3D Printing

3D printers are just way cool! For those who don't know, this 3D printer does exactly what the title suggests - takes what you've created on the computer and prints it in 3D! (Top is a video of the printer in action! And the bottom two are fully printed form of an initial product concept).

ILS - The Good and not so much

It turns out the International Lingerie Show (ILS) has something to do with the selling of sex toys and the like.  Made a quick trip to Vegas to get more acquainted with the landscape.  Most intriguing product I saw was a line of Jewelry meets sex toys by a boutique brand - Incoqnito - I had not seen before.  Their products were absolutely gorgeous...a rare find in a sea of badness.  And in the category of a "i really don't get it" was this vibrator by Niami Tang, which has a capacitance touch control on a little bat wing thing.  Struck me as awkward to use at best.

Not our journey

I have now been to a few of these "adult sex toy shows."  One in LA, and now here at the Asian equivilent in Hong Kong.  They share a theme of porn meets a sophistication void.  I can't imange we would ever exhibit at these show, but I suppose worth stopping by to better understand the landscape and perceptions we will need to work against.

Lots and lots of bunnies?

A sex shop in HK that looks a lot like what I have seen in the US.  I kinda think there is something more to offer to this space then the "rabbit thing."  With all due respect the what Sex and the City has done to make sex toys more accessible, it just seems that a bit of design and thought can bring about products that are  more compelling.

NY Times Article

Fascinating read from the NYT that makes a bold (albeit far from sufficient) attempt to understand more of the origins and nature of female sexuality. The excerpt below notes that while the studies of Meredith Chivers, noted sexual researcher, begin to explore the nature female sexuality, there is still much much more to learn and be explored before we can fully understand.

The giant forest seemed, so often, too complex for comprehension.

And sometimes Chivers talked as if the actual forest wasn’t visible at all, as if its complexities were an indication less of inherent intricacy than of societal efforts to regulate female eros, of cultural constraints that have left women’s lust dampened, distorted, inaccessible to understanding.

I should warn that while most is a rather long piece. Full article here
