Packaging Kickoff meeting

Today we had a brainstorm on product packaging. Creating sustainable & environmentally friendly packaging is very important to us. We hope that what we create will have enduring value so it minimizes less throw away, and if it has to be tossed, it should have minimal impact on the environment.

Prototypes ready for Testing

Here's a first look at the prototypes! I love how much these look like the real thing. This vibe has dual motors, is fully waterproof and has a usb-charger (to name a few of it's great features)! We made 15 fully functioning prototypes which are now all currently being tested by women so we can incorporate their feedback into the design.

Engraving

We have managed to get access to a little laser engraver.  It is pretty amazing how the little light beam can mark the metal.  Will be nice for us to have this for tracking the prototypes.

mini Assembly line of Prototypes

We managed to hand machine in our shared shop space enough parts to put together 20-30 prototypes.  While I think these will prove to be very good looking functional prototypes, I think it has taken us over a month to do this small number by hand.  Good to have to be sure before we make investments on the tooling front, but not gonna be how we make this in the real world.

Pausing for a moment on the evolution of the Duet. Very cool!

I see london I see france...

Oooops, this is not going to work. The silicone became translucent and now you can see the machined part underneath (not the look I was going for). It will need more colorant to give it opacity.

Prototype Mold fixture

So we have figured out a way to more or less approximate the silicone process & part quality we think we can get from a properly tooled part.  This process is really labor intensive, taking us 1-2 hours to make a single silicone sleeve, but it is really cool to be able to get a real sample part quickly and explore how it feels, looks etc.

exploring silicone colors

Silicone is a material we will be using for many of our products. Silicone is a 100% body safe material that is phalate-free. I am exploring various silicone colors for our first batch of prototypes. As much as I love light neutral colors...I'm not so sure this is working for me- maybe I'll try some darker colors tomorrow.

Early Color Explorations

I love the black on black...the metal body and the silicone really comes together nicely. I get lost for hours just doing color explorations...

First functional prototype part!

Wow! This is huge! Getting our first prototype to work is amazing! For the first time we can test out the vibration!
